That is the title of the book written by Caroline Young in the series of Icons with Attitude.
And we can learn so much from Coco as she transposed the sailor stipes into our beachwear then on to our daily wear of dresses, sweaters and tee shirts. I bet very few know that from her time on the ship while on vacation the like for sailors look became her inspiration for beachwear. Coco loved being comfortable and fashionable at the same time which is what created her collections of the hidden waistlines for women under the elegant jackets and A-line skirts for ease of movement. Everything she designed was meant to free women from the restriction of movement that tight skirts and waistlines controlled before her.
Coco set women free to move with ease and elegance during the day promoting the independent spirit of freedom and beauty. Coco was in love with the Sun and tan skin from it, which again was the opposite of society mark of class. She spend much of her time on French Riviera and again was the designer of the first flip flops shoe made of cork to keep her feet away from hot sand on the beach.
Much of what she created was driven by practical functional yet well-formed and finished garments or jewellery and leather goods. She believed in quality starting from fabrics all the way to the yarn she used for sawing.
Another iconic Coco trademark came from her love of horse riding and equestrian fashion was born to be worn every day by her.
From her bag 555 to vests jackets and belts she took a step up in refinement of the cushion stitching and this is how it was transformed into her signature till today.
All and everything that affected her beliefs she applied to her creations from stars on the sky to number five believed to have special luck attached to it was her base and consistency in her success. Once she committed to a belief in the success she continued till it was.
We all know Chanel number 5 Perfume, her iconic bag 555 revered till today by every woman and aspired to own it.
There was more to learn from her emotional life affecting her creations with commitment and clear direction. her focus would be her drive till it was done. She did not change midway and lose time and start something else. Never did she do that.
She was the liberator of women and inspiration to become independent for women showing them that feminine power is in being comfortable with yourself. That being beautiful and elegant was feminine power at its best. That woman should embrace it and not be shamed by it.
To add more glamour and empowerment to feel beautiful and feminine Coco introduced wearing faux jewellery in the mix of expensive pieces closing the gap of wealth as a limiting factor for women. This was huge in every aspect of feeling of self-worth for every woman.
The gifts that she left behind her wonderful connection with nature and herself is impacting us today. We are looking at the way of life to include pleasure and beauty that is the expression of who we are on daily basis without apologies. This is a very empowering attitude to live with.
Thank you Coco Chanel for all that you brought into daily life to experience.
Man love seeing sensuous self-assured women.
