Miami FL. USA
One of the world’s biggest electronic music festivals will be returning to downtown
Miami in 2022 as a longtime feud between local neighbours and Ultra has been
settled. Ultra has been a staple to Miami for the past 20+ years bringing in hundreds
of thousands of music fans from all corners of the Globe.
The good news came on Tuesday as organizers of the Ultra Music Festival
announced that they had reached an agreement with the Downtown Neighbors
Alliance. The association, which represents 13 downtown condominium towers, has
now given its blessing and will no longer try to stop the festival from happening at
its long time home of Bayfront Park.
Ultra said in a statement it would address issues like construction schedules, park
closures, noise monitoring and traffic management. Festival organizers and
residents found a balance between protecting local lifestyles and hosting large-scale
music productions, Ultra spokesman Ray Martinez said. He suggested the event
being cancelled the past two years might have helped negotiations.
“Maybe the COVID pause gave both sides an opportunity to kind of take a breath, if
you will, and come to the table without the impending event looming over either
side,” Martinez said.
Downtown Neighbors Alliance President James Torres said in a statement that his
group was pleased with the deal. “We believe that this agreement will allow Ultra
and its neighbours to coexist and will highlight Downtown Miami as ‘One Community
for All,’ and a great place to live, work and play,” Torres said.
After the 2018 event, city commissioners voted not to renew the festival’s contract
following complaints from residents. Ultra organizers moved the festival to Virginia
Key in 2019, but logistical issues and sound complaints from new neighbours
prompted organizers not to seek another year at that location.
Then Ultra like so many other events was unfortunately forced to cancel and
postpone the festival multiple times, first in 2020 then again this year due to Corona
Virus concerns.
Now it looks like fans can finally rejoice and start planning as the festival’s flagship
event is set to return to its home in downtown Miami on March 25, 26, 27 2022 and
we are certain that it’s going to be bigger than ever.
