The Italian term “moda” derives from the Latin “modus”, which means movement, evolution and dynamism. And so the reference to the wheel immediately comes to mind. The inspiration for the Autumn Winter 2015 womenswear collection is “luxury in motion” and DAKS has chosen wheels, particularly motorbike wheels, to celebrate the great iconic story of English motorcycling. Creative Director, Filippo Scuffi, has gone along this “road” to reach “the exclusive place” of elegance in a sporty chic mood. This is in conjunction with the DAKS menswear Milan AW15 show. Motorcycling is celebrated through its most iconic garments; a red leather jacket lined with red cashmere, a classic black style motorbiking jacket and a chic biker style skirt.
Quilting can be seen throughout the collection, which immediately brings to mind the motorbike saddle, where it has been used on garments such as jackets, gloves and shoes.
A tulip print has also been used in part of the collection, with different variations of colours and sizes and in chiffon and georgette fabrics. The feminine floor length shirtdress in deep autumnal tones is a key piece in this print.
British fabrics such as Prince of Wales check features strongly in the collection and can be seen in a masculine inspired double-breasted jacket and matching crop trousers. Alongside this, a nod to the 70’s can be seen within the choice of music, models and hairstyles.
