The LIE SANGBONG Spring/Summer 2015 collection, entitled “Dream Road,” evokes optimism and celebrates life. “It is from hardship that we derive strength and hope,” says designer Lie Sang Bong, who was stirred by a maritime disaster in his native South Korea this past April. “With this collection, I want to share the positivity that is brought on by the beginning of spring and the promise of a new day.”
The collection, dreamlike and serene, prominently features butterfly, floral, and cloud motifs. Graphic, lively prints are incorporated into this season’s crisp color palate of white, turquoise, cobalt, and purple.
Examining the relationship between delicate structure and movement, Mr. Lie applies his signature architectural silhouettes and precise tailoring to this ethereal collection. The resulting garments, produced in an array of luxurious fabrics, including silk jacquard, linen, silk organza, silk chiffon, and fine cotton, are impeccably constructed, yet light and lithe. ‘X-shaped’ jackets and dresses standout this season and resemble the graceful wings of butterflies. Delicate pleating, asymmetric details, and the use of a unique hologram jacquard in this season’s prints, enhance the visual impact.
“Dream Road” is most literally interpreted in a unique runway installation created in collaboration with Jang Seung Hyo, a Korean sculptor and installation artist. The installation features 1,188 glass tiles, similar to picture frames, which feature collage-to-photo prints that incorporate a selection of iconic prints from the LIE SANGBONG archive as well as the motifs debuted this season. Strategically placed together, the tiles are positioned to create a visually striking catwalk that compliments the LIE SANGBONG Spring/Summer 2015 collection.
The LIE SANGBONG Spring-Summer 2015 collection will be available beginning in March 2015 in retailers across the globe, including the brand’s first US boutique located at 30 Gansevoort St in New York City.
