Kris Van Assche – Menswear Spring/Summer 2015 Collection in Paris (with itw)
The 80s are back with Kris Van Assche’s 20th collection. The 80s and all that comes with it are back in Van Assche’s 20th collection, presented in the Halle Freyssinet in Paris. The sportswear look that the designer holds dear is approached elegantly, with slides matching a trouser suit or shorts, worn with a hooded shirt under a jacket. There is construction and deconstruction in the two-length jackets and the ripped up clothes. The knitwear is worked in onesummery version that is hemstitched, or with a relief effect. We rediscover checks, jeans and green nylon military bomber jackets which made up the good old days and which the youth of today will be able to joyfully wear again! Interview : Kris Van Assche : These are truly the elements of the 80s and 90s, the ripped jeans of the times, belts put on wrong, ties tucked into shirts, bomber jackets, white jeans, even the necklace we all had when we were 18 or 16 years old. All of these have been reworked a little rebelliously and worn today by the youth of 2015. All the same I am making a statement with hybrid clothing, jeans that aren’t jeans, hooded sweaters, hooded sweatshirts which are also shirts, bomber jackets that which become suit jackets, all of this is a part of my identity and what I consider myself to be. This collection is inspired by this era’s youth whose dreams are still very much intact, and they have the impression that they are going to conquer the world and that nothing is going to stand in their way, and I really like this period. So it’s also something that is deliberately directed toward the future.
