QUINCY, CA – The High Sierra Music Festival, a cherished cornerstone of the American festival scene, is thrilled to announce its triumphant return for its 33rd year. Mark your calendars for July 3-6, 2025, as the festival once again transforms the serene Plumas-Sierra County Fairgrounds in Quincy, CA, into a vibrant haven for music lovers, adventurers, and creatives. Nestled in the breathtaking Feather River Canyon, this quintessential four-day camping and music experience is set to embrace the future while honoring its rich legacy, promising an unforgettable celebration of music, art, and community.
Under the visionary leadership of longtime music industry veteran David “Dave” Margulies, High Sierra is poised to usher in a bold new chapter. Margulies, now stepping fully into the role of producer and curator, brings decades of experience and a passion for discovery to the festival’s storied stage. Known for its eclectic blend of genres, including post-Grateful Dead jam bands, bluegrass, funk, Americana, and international music, High Sierra will continue to offer a unique mix of beloved staples and fresh, emerging talent.
“My goal is to turn people on to music they’ve never heard before while also honoring the sounds that have defined High Sierra’s legacy,” says Margulies. “This festival is more than music; it’s a community, a culture, and a family. For 33 years, our fans, staff, vendors, and artists have been the heartbeat of High Sierra, creating something magical, organic, and enduring. We are eternally grateful for their passion and belief in what we do.”
The festival’s return comes after navigating years of challenges, including a global pandemic, shifting industry dynamics, rising inflation, and the recent loss of its beloved founder and talent buyer, Roy Carter. Yet, in true High Sierra spirit, the festival has emerged stronger, ready to deliver a reimagined experience that builds on its deep roots while exploring new horizons. High Sierra is more than just a music festival; it’s an immersive experience that blends artistic expression, outdoor adventure, and heartfelt human connection, creating lasting memories.
Beyond the music, attendees can expect daily parades, one-of-a-kind artist collaborations, acoustic troubadour sessions, yoga classes, and themed camps brimming with creativity. The festival’s Family Village offers professional childcare services, ensuring everyone, from parents to kids, can enjoy the festivities. For those seeking relaxation, the fairgrounds feature lush green spaces, a community swimming pool, and easy access to the scenic beauty of the Feather River Canyon’s rivers and trails.
As Steve Poltz, a beloved High Sierra performer, puts it: “It’s the most wonderful time of the year. People sparkling and dancing and singing and prancing, with parades scattered here and there. It really IS the most wonderful time of the year. Free hugs, no shrugs!”
This year’s festival will also pay homage to its intimate roots, with attendance capped at under 10,000. High Sierra remains a sanctuary for authenticity, connection, and discovery in a world of increasingly massive, commercialized music festivals. It’s a place where lifelong friendships are forged, creative
collaborations are sparked, and the awe-inspiring Sierra Nevada Mountains serve as the backdrop for unforgettable memories.
