Reviving what is quite literally a century-old tradition, Duckworth Prestex is proud to present the CENTENARY watch: marking 100 years since the Prestex name first appeared on a timepiece.
The original watch company was started by Frank Duckworth, the grandfather of current owner Neil Duckworth. Frank’s company started making pocket watches in 1924 from the workshops in Bolton, Neil’s home town, a century ago.
Shortly afterwards, the very first Prestex wristwatches started to appear – including a distinctive rectangular watch that went on to become a true icon of style from 1935. These unique dress watches combined quality with value, pairing elegantly with the fashions and preferences of the day.
Nearly a century later, Duckworth Prestex has revived this Art Deco look to create the stunning new CENTENARY: a watch that unashamedly harks back to the early days of the company.
The distinctive look of the original 1935 Prestex watch is faithfully carried over to the CENTENARY, complete with a period font, applied numerals, and the classic train tracks around the dial. The small seconds rectangular sub dial also looks exactly the same as the original, adding up to a package that brims with period charm but also modern watchmaking technology.
The CENTENARY is now as reliable as it is beautiful, thanks to the modern Swiss-made Ronda quartz movement that sits inside the elegantly slim case. Sized at 24 by 40 millimetres, the CENTENARY is suited for both men and women, with three different versions offered, available on either leather straps, suede straps or steel mesh Milanese bracelets.
The dial colour options are cream, salmon pink and midnight blue. Prices are just £495 on a strap, and £550 on a steel mesh bracelet. Orders can be placed online now and delivery will be on time for Christmas.
Company founder Neil Duckworth commented: “Next year will be an important milestone for Duckworth Prestex and I wanted to mark this occasion by releasing a very special watch, which is quite different from anything else we have done before. The CENTENARY marks the 100th birthday of the Prestex name by going back to a classic Art Deco design that encapsulates a whole era, updated for the modern day to offer an unparalleled combination of quality, style, and value. We’ve already previewed this model in New York and London and the reception has been amazing, so we’re looking forward to finally seeing it in production.” THE DIAL DETAILS Functions: hours / minutes / seconds Indices:Bolton original numerals Small seconds rectangular subdial at 6 o’clock THE CASE Case Dimensions: 24mm by 40mm (excluding crown) Overall Case Thickness: 7.5mm Lug Width: 20mm Case: 316L solid stainless steel Steel back with screw fixings Polished 5.5mm crown with D Glass – Double bridge Sapphire Water resistance to 50m (164 feet) THE MOVEMENT Swiss made Ronda Quartz 1069 SM PRESENTATION Individually numbered Branded microfibre polishing cloth Presentation case Every Duckworth Prestex watch comes with a 2-year warranty.
