The Inspiration Behind Amanda Wakeley Summer 2017 Collection
“My woman this season is a creative… A dancer turned artist… She styles herself in an eclectic way… She treasures detail and beauty whether that be her own sculpted form from years of training… the tiny tulle edging on her dress or her Grandmother’s embellished jacket which has come full circle and once again feels new and yet innately precious and one of a kind…
She lives life with an intensity… starting her day at the barre, throwing on her paint splashed indigo artist smock over her ballet practice underpinnings… Splashing shades of indigo onto gossamer silk to create her own print… Realising that her creativity has run away with her day… she swaps her indigos for hand ombréd chiffons or tulles… her body sculpting black underpinnings visible through the sheerness… but she is carefree, and loves the effect of the summer evening breeze on the fluidity of these precious fabrics…
For me, this season, film rather than runway feels like a fresher way of communicating the collection and the Wakeley woman. I wanted a modern approach that talks directly about my inspiration, the silhouettes, fabrics and finishes. These details are fundamental to the Wakeley brand and can sometimes be lost in the speed and noise of a conventional show. Combining the Installation with the craft of film feels timely to make the presentation of this new collection very personal.
This season I have collaborated with the young film maker Alex Warren for the first time.”
The presentation was held in the Amanda Wakeley Albemarle Street store in Mayfair.
