On Wednesday, April 26th the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA) hosted its inaugural Birthday Bash. The benefit celebrates the first year of welcoming art lovers from around the world to rediscover the extraordinary collection and groundbreaking exhibitions. The evening featured an artful live performance by Grammy Award–winning artist Solange and one-of-a-kind encounters with artists Judy Chicago, Lil Buck, Jacolby Satterwhite and more. All of the night’s proceeds will provide vital funds for SFMOMA’s innovative exhibitions and education programs, which serve more than 60,000 students, teachers, and families each year. Chaired by Penny Coulter, Lydia P. Shorenstein and Kaitlyn Krieger, the Birthday Bash unfolded in two concurrent parties — the Birthday Supper, a seated dinner in the museum’s fifth-floor Jean and James Douglas Family Sculpture Garden and Pavilion; and the Surprise Bash, an interactive art and dining experience in the museum’s seventh-floor galleries. Both parties culminated in the Late-Night Bash, featuring a headline performance by Solange. Notable attendees included Solange, Lil Buck, Les Twins, Judy Chicago, Doug Aitken, Bill Fontana, Mike Krieger, Brian Chesky, Mayor Ed Lee, Charlotte Shultz, George Shultz, Jony Ive, and Vanessa Getty.
