Finnish design house Marimekko unveiled it’s Fall / Winter 2017 ready-to-wear collection at Paris Fashion Week. The on-model presentation was shown at the Finnish Embassy in Paris, alongside the premiere of a short film directed by renowned Polish-Swedish fashion photographer and director Kacper Kasprzyk.
The Autumn / Winter 2017 collection is in honor of this year’s 100th anniversary of Finland’s independence and celebrates Finnish creativity and culture. The collection was also influenced by Finnish female artists and their storytelling from figurative to abstract art for inspiration.
The film by Kasprzyk, which was shot throughout Helsinki, pays homage to Marimekko’s mission of finding joy in the everyday life by showcasing the ordinary from an interesting point of view. Kasprzyk was also inspired by the craftsmanship of Marimekko’s headquarter city of Helsinki.
Both the collection and film were inspired by Finnish art, architecture, folklore, and how the influence of Finnish nature is reflected across the country’s culture overall.
