BAYFashion at NYC Fashion Week S/S 2013 Day 3
by Jenna Ghosheh and Sarah Silva
BAYFashion attended nine shows on day three, September 8th, of the festivities: Ruffian, Lacoste, Jill Stuart, Son Jung Wan, Mara Hoffman, Rafael Cennamo, VLOV – QingQing Wu, Monique Lhullier, and Venexiana.
Ruffian: This seasons collection was playfully girly. We saw corsets, extreme long-sleeves on oversize shirts and a continuation of the cropped bodiced tank trend–all this in pastel pink, blue, and white.
Lacoste: Preppy minimalism. Lacoste’s collection included models wearing head-to-toe prints with button up tops, pants, and matching fanny packs. Short sleeves were kept loose and long, and rain trench coats and waterproof dresses were welded in construction.
Jill Stuart: Jill Stuart also included trenches for spring, as well as jumpsuits and pencil skirt dresses in white and black florallace with attached flower pieces. Necklines were wide and scooped. Jill Stuart also upped the femininity with satin bow dresses in dark mauve.
Son Jung Wan: The collection is self-described as “everything under the sun”. Earthtone colors were used consistently throughout the show. Pleats and lace were featured on many of the garments.
Mara Hoffman: The Hawaiian themed collection opened with a group of 3 ukulele players.
Beautifully tailored bright colored bustiers consisted of coral and turquoise with a splash of neutrals.
Rafael Cennamo: Breathtaking. Each look was an original piece of artwork. All gowns were handcrafted with beaded rosettes and swirls. The dresses were styles with wide silver belts, an alternative to the skinny belts shown in most collections thus far this season. There were also kimono elements to many of the looks.
VLOV QingQing Wu: Executed crinkled silk and linen garments brilliantly. The highlight of the collection was the finale piece, a light orange colored suit.
Monique Lhullier: Femininity shown at it’s best by peplum tops and bottoms. This collection was inspired by “water and life of the sea”; all pieces were either structured or fluid. Monique Lhullier successfully presents looks that flatter the figure for all body types.
Venexiana: Presented a total of 71 gorgeous gowns. Each gown exhibited detailed beadwork, crystal embellishments, feathers, crystal appliqués, and lace. The general color scheme comprised of pastels, a noted trend for the coming spring/summer
