The biggest show-stopping accessories for Fall/Winter Couture ‘14 weren’t—as one might expect—bags, shoes, or even jewelry pieces. This season, everything revolves around…headwear!
Probably the most memorable accessories were the meticulously crafted masks by Margiela. Embellished, see-through veils resembling fencing gear added a hint of mystery to the collection. Maison Martin Margiela is the first fashion house with a no-logo policy. The designer himself remained anonymous until the end of his career in 2009. Implicit with this new couture collection was a tribute to the brand’s heritage, imbuing anonymity with meticulously adorned veils that left onlookers transfixed in wonder.
The Armani Prive couture show had a retro vibe with bold dresses reminiscent of flamenco costumes. Stunning, yet simple eveningwear wouldn’t be complete without being topped off by an absolutely ravishing piece of headwear. Tulle veils decorated with large and small polka dots were the collection’s theme, giving it a unique feel.
Funky, retro-inspired hats continue to be one of the trendiest accessories for several seasons. Small, funny headpieces were the frosting on the cake at Schiaparelli’s show, giving it a fairytale tone. Art, pop culture, and tales are some of this fall’s most significant trends—and hats are the perfect accessories to infuse these fun elements into any outfit.
Headbands are the perfect alternatives for the spectacular hats and veils seen at this season’s couture shows. Designers let their imaginations run wild, creating crazy, oversized hair accessories. Don’t be afraid to splurge since this fall—fashion is supposed to be fun!
